Arunachal Pradesh is a protected state, so Indian citizens from outside the state need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter. Checkpoints such as Bhalukpong on the way to Tawang check it, so it has to be ready before you travel.
What you need
- A government photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, voter ID or driving licence).
- A recent passport-size photo.
- Your travel dates and the places you plan to visit.
The permit is applied for online through the Arunachal Pradesh government’s e-ILP portal and is issued for specific dates. Carry a printed copy and the ID you applied with.
Foreign nationals
Visitors from outside India need a Protected Area Permit instead, which has different rules. Tell us your nationality when you enquire and we will explain the current process.
How YatraVoya helps
When you book a Tawang or Arunachal trip with us, we collect your documents on WhatsApp and arrange the permit for your exact dates, so the only thing you carry is a printout.
Rules can change. We always confirm the latest requirements before your trip.
